Smiley Face Egg-in-the-Hole Toast

I seldom get the chance to make breakfast for EV or AA, as I have to go to work extremely early. So since it is the holidays, I whipped up breakfast for the both of them today.

Toast cover

Today's breakfast was extremely easy to make - all done in just half an hour. And it needed very few ingredients too.

Ingredients
- Bread (any kind, one slice for each smiley face)
- 1 egg (beaten, for two smiley faces)
- Ham (any kind)
- 2 whole blueberries
- Cherry tomatoes (2 slices)
- Butter

Method
1. Cut out two round circles for the eyes and a curved shape for the mouth. Spread butter on the bread.
2. Heat some butter in a frying pan, and put in the bread, buttered side up.
3. Slowly scoop in the beaten egg into the eyes and mouth, making sure that it does not overflow over the bread.
4. After 2 to 3 minutes, turn the bread over and fry on other side.
5. Place two blueberries on the eyes, one on each eye.
6. Slice the egg in the mouth area, and slide in the tomatoes.
7. Cut the ham into a small triangle, and place it in the middle for the nose.

'What's that? What's that?' was EV's response when she saw the toast, and she was wildly enthusiastic about the blueberries and ham. AA wanted to have a taste of it too, and was excitedly watching me prepare the toast. He fell asleep though, as he was up early at 530am, and missed his smiley toast. He will have his another day.

Adventures: Animal Resort

Last weekend, we visited the Animal Resort for a short family outing on the less trodden path. C and I had been there before we were married. This time, several years later, we were back again with our two kids, the kids' grandparents, grand uncle and aunt.

EV had a good time looking at the animals, while being guided (read: entertained) by her favourite, and only aunt.. AA, being just 4 months old, was comfortable in grandmum's arms.

We also went into the training grounds of the German Shepherd Dog Club. This brought back memories of our two family German Shepherd dogs, and how Dad used to train them to attain the highest honour for dogs - Companion Dogs. Then Dad went on to train other dogs, before finally becoming a judge at those doggie shows. At the grounds that day, we saw one of Dad's old doggie friends. They still meet to talk about the old days.

Our two dogs passed on many years ago, and since then, I have not touched a German Shepherd dog. So you can imagine my joy when I patted and ran my fingers through the fur of Amber. Oh.. I so miss the feeling. And to add to that joy, EV was making friends with Amber too! Such a sweet sight!

Dinner followed, at one of our favourite restaurants called Lee Kui at Chinatown. An enjoyable and fulfilling Sunday with the family.

Simple Sunday: Missing you G!!

My nephew GG has spent the last two months with us in Singapore, and tonight, he flew back to Melbourne. I know not when I will see him again. I hope it's really soon. The next time we meet, he and AA may even be walking already, and together with EV, we parents will be having a stressful time chasing them around. But it'll be so much fun!! :)

My dearest GG xiao man tou!! I'm missing you so much already!

Simple Sunday: My family

Sundays are best spent with the family. How true that is! Here, we enjoy some bonding time, while cheeky EV pulls AA's ear teasingly. After this, she quickly gave AA a hug and kiss. AA obviously didn't like it very much though. He must be thinking "Jie jie, you wait. When I get older, I'll pull your ear!"
