First Look at the Asus ZenFone Max

So this techy mama was asked whether she was interested to try out the new Asus ZenFone MAX. Like what AA would say: of course! How can I resist playing with a cool gadget?

So here, I share my first impressions. Not bad, for a 5.5 inch phone. Seriously, nowadays, most phones are similar, especially in terms of their internal features (more on this in a next post). What really sets a phone apart is the screen size, user platform (which is dominated by two key players: iOS and Android), and also its looks.

Taking the MAX out of the box, it looks like it's potentially a winner in the looks department. It's slim at 5.2mm at its thinnest edge, and from the front, it looks stylish yet doesn't draw much attention. Turn to the back, however, and it's a different story.

The back is black and features embossed leather. Now that's attention grabbing, making the MAX different from other current phones with smooth metal alloy or plastic backs. Its wow factor, however, is still not as impressive as its sibling, the ZenFone Zoom. Based on my research, the Zoom looks like a point and shoot camera from the back, with its 13 megapixel camera capability and a real 3x optical zoom. If only they can include the same back camera at the same price point of the MAX, that would be something. Still, since Asus has the capability to create a camera with physical, not digital, zooming capability, I guess it's just a matter of time enforce the more basic models offer this feature too.

So first impressions, the MAX looks like it's got potential. Stay tuned for the next post, where I will share more about my thoughts of the Asus Zenfone MAX.
