This calls for a celebration! Of the crabby kind!I grew up eating Shanghainese hairy crabs and Teochew cold crabs (thanks to my Shanghainese and Teochew grandparents), and I love my crabs. The festive season is upon us. If you are thinking about your food options for your family dinner now, how about some Shepherd’s Pie, delivered right to your door step?
When Shepherd’s Pie approached me to do a review recently, I thought: it’s not enough to just review their pies. As it also has a pie delivery service, I needed to check out their online Winnie @ Toddly Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10180932650485165089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344208809268724888.post-1887207297455678092019-09-06T07:25:00.000+08:002019-09-06T16:28:56.700+08:005 survival tips to Walking with Dinosaurs - The Live ExperienceDisclaimer: This is a I-paid-for-my-own-tickets post. The talk of the town must be Walking With Dinosaurs: the Live Experience. Ok, at least that’s my opinion when I see all the FB & IG updates. EV and AA are now 9 and 7 years old respectively. They read independently, and it is very obvious that they love it. I love to see them sitting quietly by themselves as they immerse in the wonderful world of whatever book they are reading. And it’s nice to sit or lie next to them doing the same thing.
Often, EV and AA will still ask me to read aloud to them. I don’t have to spell out the discussion here, you already know what I’m talking about. This topic has been discussed till death, almost every year when PSLE looms. {Media Event Invite}
Last Friday, I attended a National Day celebrations party at Pat's Schoolhouse @ Claymore. Watching the pre-nursery to kindergarten kids dancing their hearts out, I couldn't help but feel warm and fuzzy. I miss my little ones when they were this young. This is AA's K2 year, and very soon, he'll be having his graduation concert, and then he'll be starting his primary school Winnie @ Toddly Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10180932650485165089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344208809268724888.post-23596550094344808892018-07-09T11:00:00.000+08:002018-07-24T11:09:33.984+08:00Review: Great Escapes by Judy Dodge Cummings
I was actually searching for a book for myself at the library, when I came across this - Great Escapes: Real Tales of Harrowing Getaways (Mystery and Mayhem), by Judy Dodge Cummings.
Being a fan of history, mystery and espionage books, it immediately caught my attention. I didn't realise it was for young readers 9 to 13 until I laid my hands on it. Then thought: it'll be great for EV, though Winnie @ Toddly Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10180932650485165089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344208809268724888.post-58736465149076657482018-07-02T11:00:00.000+08:002018-07-02T11:00:01.615+08:00Back again...
Howdy...
It's been a year since I last blogged. Well, besides some ups and downs in my life ever since, I must admit that as a wife, mother, daughter, teacher to my kids, and many other roles that often give me mental fatigue, I do feel tired very easily. Imagine 5am mornings... and by the time I put my kids to bed at 9pm, I am exhausted. Dead tired. So yeah, you can imagine that I don't Winnie @ Toddly Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10180932650485165089noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344208809268724888.post-50269432034488633392017-06-02T10:06:00.000+08:002017-06-02T10:22:00.647+08:00Primary Prep - nurturing English language literacy & recommended resources
Semester 1 has come to an end, and I guess EV’s first foray into formal education has, well, been so far so good. She seems to have gotten into the primary school routine with little problems, and we’re glad we’ve always encouraged her to be independent since young. Taking the school bus since she was in pre-nursery was a good decision, as it has become a habit she is used to and enjoys.

My oh my oh my…. It’s exactly 12 days to the start of school. Exactly 12 days before EV starts her Primary One journey! Panic mode!
Well, I think this mummy is more anxious than panic. Anxious because her little baby is growing up too fast, as I had shared here and here.
Anyhow, what has to come has to come, and I’ve been busy preparing her for the new journey, preparing her room andWinnie @ Toddly Mummyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10180932650485165089noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5344208809268724888.post-76066102233719159492016-12-20T10:56:00.000+08:002016-12-20T15:10:01.391+08:005 Cooking tips for quick and no-fuss meals (when the babysitters are away)
December is usually the time when I clear my leave, so I can spend more time with the kids. We didn’t plan any long extended trip this year, just a short getaway to Malacca. The rest of the time, I sent EV and AA for inline skating and Mandarin speech & drama lessons at community centres, where such lessons are priced more economically.

My little big one is heading to Primary 1 officially in about a month’s time. As shared in this post, we had actually started preparing her early. Kiasu? Nah… more like worried parents who want their little darling to be mentally, emotionally and physically prepared.
In our last post, we shared about inculcating values. Dear darling,
"There's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall and the bells in the steeple too.
And up in the nursery an absurd little bird is popping out to say 'cuckoo'."
You are familiar with these lyrics. They are from the song So Long Farewell, from one of our favourite musicals, Sound of Music.
No no, this absolutely has nothing to do with goodbye.

Dear darling,

Imagine, not having to bring an extra power bank to charge your phone once it runs out of juice in the middle of the day. After all, this is a common scenario, especially when we are such heavy users of mobiles these days.

Straight after our visit to the Treasures of the World exhibition, we headed to the Singapore History Gallery, as requested by EV. From the outside, the Gallery looks quite understated. Little did we expect that there is a wealth of displays that trace Singapore's history from the time it was a fishing village, to the colonial times, to World War 2 and the country's independence.
